Jesus invites us to be part of changing the world! When He commanded us to “go and make disciples of all nations” (Matt 28:19), He was asking us to share His message of love and hope with anyone and every[one]. That means we plant churches all around the world – even in places where the Gospel of Jesus is considered off-limits.
Our partnership with The Timothy Initiative (TTI), an incredible worldwide movement of disciple-making and church-planting, has allowed the start of over 3,000 house churches in South Asia. We didn’t do it alone – a group of 8 churches including Kensington committed to raising $1 million dollars to bring the message of Jesus to that region. The Timothy Initiative’s method is tried and true: Disciples Making Disciples, Churches Planting Churches, Leaders Developing Leaders.
Disciples Making Disciples. Before a believer is ready to lead a church, he or she must be led by someone with wisdom and experience. He or she must be given the necessary tools, resources, and strategies for the future. The Timothy Initiative (TTI) has a discipleship process which takes approximately four months and equips believers for the next step: starting a house church.
Churches Planting Churches. Church “planting” is simply starting a new church. And “house churches” may meet in homes, on mountaintops, under trees, or in river beds. TTI’s process allows for a church-planting trainer to walk alongside the disciple-makers as they start a new church and grow in their leadership and maturity. This phase of intentional leadership development lasts at least six months.
Leaders Developing Leaders. TTI partners with local leaders in some of the least reached areas of the world to train disciple-makers and church-planters. Believers don’t have to leave their villages, endure expensive fees, or struggle with training materials in a non-native language. Instead, these barriers are removed, and local leaders train them to become leaders themselves. And one day in the future, these newly raised-up leaders will likewise train and equip leaders to reach people for Jesus.
We believe that no child should die from hunger and disease. Kensington’s grass-roots sponsorship program has brought food, healthcare, education, and the hope of Jesus to more than 5,000 kids in Kenya, India, Nepal, and Brazil.
