Church Planting in Northern India,
Partnering with The Timothy Initiative

Jesus invites us to be part of changing the world. When He called us to “go and make disciples of all nations” He appointed and equipped us to share His message of hope with anyone and everyone.

That means, we plant churches all around the world! We – no matter who we are or what we do – are Church Planters! Let’s go!

A Unified Mission

Kensington has committed to support The Timothy Initiative in northern India along with six other metro Detroit churches! You can see why this is big: we’re partnering to bring Jesus to a place in desperate need of Him, and we’re doing it with other local churches – a unified mission! We’ve joined with Woodside, Oak Pointe, Heritage, Grumlaw, Bellcreek, and River Bible Church to raise $1M for disciple-training and church-planting in northern India, a predominantly Hindu region. Together, we’ll plant 3,333 churches. Through The Timothy Initiative – an expert organization for global church planting – a church can be strategically and solidly started in a new location for $300. Kensington alone has committed to starting 1,000 churches in this project.

All it takes is $300 to plant one church in northern India; that church reaches approximately 200 people, and trains disciples to continue sharing. The Timothy Initiative has a Biblically based system for training disciples that is a two-year period focusing on new believers and multiplication, obedience-based discipleship, and mentoring.

When you commit to $300, you are launching a new church!

What exactly is church planting?

Church planting is simply ‘starting a new church.’ A seed is planted in the ground and over time it grows into a plant and bears fruit. It’s the same for the church. A few disciples (someone who is learning the practices and teachings of Jesus) plant a church and then over time, God grows that seed and more and more individuals are touched by the hope, love, and healing His church brings to a community. That’s why church planting is so important. Each church plant has a different way, pace, and style of growing – but Jesus’ message is so amazing that we know lives will be transformed.

What is The Timothy Initiative?

The Timothy Initiative is Kensington’s 11th Global Partner (we announced this in December 2020). This organization has a proven Bible-based method of training indigenous leaders in more than 40 countries that are multiplying disciple-makers and church planters to share the Gospel with some of the least-reached areas of the world.

What are Kensington’s Global Partners?

Kensington now has 11 Global Partners all across the world—India, Kenya, Afghanistan, South Sudan, Egypt, Israel & Palestine, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Nepal, Brazil, and now Northern India partnered with The Timothy Initiative. Each partnership is Kensington serving under an indigenous leader, through a multiplication church planting movement. Each partner is actively planting churches or serving the local church, because we know that churches reach people with the Gospel message all over the world. As each partner starts new churches, they actively seek to holistically meet the needs of the people in their country through clean water, medical care, orphan care, education, as a means to share the Gospel.

Why northern India?

Northern India is a predominantly Hindu region, a particularly difficult place for Christians. The church planters are taking great risks for their faith and desire to share Jesus with others. Our partnership will be focused on two Indian states: Jharkhand in North Central India and Uttarakhand in the far North.
