Afghanistan is considered one of the most unreached countries in the world. Of the 34 million people, 99.8% are Muslim. The few bold believers are sharing about Jesus and His transforming power at great risk to themselves and to their families. Kensington’s partnership with Biglife is animating the house-church movement and discipling new believers
In 2010, a Christian working in Pakistan with the organization, Biglife, decided to return home to his people to share the Gospel. He began his discreet ministry with six other believers and it has grown to more than 1900 underground house churches with over 12,000 disciples across 16 tribal areas. The ministry focuses on church planting, disciple making, and more recently, emergency evacuations.
Indigenous believers look for seekers amongst the muslim community and carefully share their own story and a Muslim Outreach Bible in the local language when they sense the Holy Spirit is at work. Small underground churches start in homes and are rapidly reproducing around the country. Each house-church or group aims to grow through teaching and worship, respond to God's Word with obedience, share the good news of Jesus with others, and baptize and disciple new believers.
Believers are given leadership training and then work to establish long-term relationships with local people. These people, in turn, share the gospel and disciple others. This simple method is catalyzing the house-church movement in Afghanistan – the Gospel is spreading quietly from one person to another in homes, alleys, and hushed conversations. For those seeking or wanting to grow, Bibles are desperately sought. Recently, Biglife distributed more than 120,000 Bibles in one year within this country that prohibits converting to Christianity.
Recently, with the Taliban establishing control in August of 2021, Kensington Church made additional donations to support our partner on the ground in the aiding of evacuating more than 38,000 people in this period of extreme violence and danger. These refugee families are primarily those involved in our partner's ministry as well as other faith-based organizations.
We believe that no child should die from hunger and disease. Kensington’s grass-roots sponsorship program has brought food, healthcare, education, and the hope of Jesus to more than 5,000 kids in Kenya, India, Nepal, and Brazil.
